I am a 24-year-old woman and have a boyfriend. We have been in a long-distance relationship and are sexually attracted to each other, though we have not had sex. I have been facing a problem of not getting wet. Even when I am sexually aroused my vagina remains dry and that’s making me depressed. What is the reason for this? I don’t want to lose him. What is wrong with me?

It is necessary to find out the cause of your problem of not being able to get wet, even when you are sexually aroused. Low Estrogen level is one of the known common causes of vaginal dryness. However, you are just 24. In view of your young age, it is highly unlikely that you have a low Estrogen level. However, it will be worthwhile to get your Serum Estrogen (E2) level checked. If you are on any antihistaminic (anti-allergic) medications, this can also cause dryness of vagina. You are in a long-distance relationship. In the absence of ‘real’ sexual contact and a lack of actual physical intimacy, it is possible that the quality of stimulation that is necessary for your sexual arousal could be falling short in getting you adequately wet. In such cases, a water- based artificial lubricating jelly is often advised to counter vaginal dryness during the masturbation or intercourse. However, to diagnose the actual cause of your problem and find out the permanent solution to this issue, it will be advisable to have a personal consultation with a qualified sexologist.
