My wife and I are facing a peculiar problem during sexual intercourse. When I touch her, air goes into her vagina and she starts feeling heavy, uncomfortable and sees some pain in her lower abdomen and we have to stop just within few seconds of making love. Air getting trapped in vagina during sexual activity is quite a normal thing that happens to many people. This phenomenon is known as ‘vaginal flatulence’ or ‘queefing’. In most of the cases, it is not a symptom of any medical condition. Frankly speaking there is neither any definite way to treat this, nor are there many things you can really do to prevent this from happening. During intercourse penis can trap air inside the vagina when you move in and out. This happens more commonly during some sexual positions more than others. Some experts suggest adopting slower thrusts during intercourse, so that air doesn’t get trapped. Some other experts believe that one can reduce the occurrence of ‘queefing’ by doing Kegel exercises regularly, which help to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. It is also advisable to have your wife examined by a qualified gynaecologist, to see if she has something like ‘vaginal fistula’ or some other medical issue that could be causing this.
