Doubts about marrying a divorcee. Need help!
ReportPlease briefly explain why you feel this question should be reported.
I (29, M, Gujarati) am in a relationship with a girl (32, F, Marwadi) for the past 4 months. We met through a common sport. It was only until recently that she revealed that she had been married before and is a divorcee. I am devastated and don’t know how to react. She says she married her boyfriend (another Gujarati) from MBA college in 2017 and divorced in 2018.
I initially thought of breaking up with her as we were not serious anyways. But then I feel that she might be my best bet. I don’t think I have chances at other girls for love marriage as all my friends (F) are married. I have a few doubts if you could help me with.
- How do I convince my parents for me marrying a divorcee?
- What are the challenges of being married to a divorcee?
- Will she divorce me also?
- Her parents are willing to gift us an apartment if we get married. What does this mean?

Q: How do I convince my parents for me marrying a divorcee?
A: Same as how you would introduce your girlfriend to your parents for love marriage. Reveal at a later stage that she is a divorcee. Make sure to make them understand the reasons for her divorce and how she is innocent!
Q: What are the challenges of being married to a divorcee?
A: There will always be a doubt that she might divorce you eventually. She might compare you to her previous husband for small things. Society will say ill things about her. Her seal is definitely broken.
Make sure she is legally divorced and not ‘seperated’.
Q: Will she divorce me also?
A: There is no true answer to this. Although chances are high for a divorcee to go through another divorce, if you two make your marriage work….
Q: Her parents are willing to gift us an apartment if we get married. What does this mean?
A: Her parents want to get her off their shoulder. She probably is not getting any matches through arranged setting. They want to see their daughter settled in life and are happy to give you something for it!
