They say you have been married for a year. It doesn’t matter if you plan to get pregnant from time to time. After 35 years, there are more chances of having children with genetic defects, brain defects, especially Down syndrome. Due to late marriages these days we are seeing first child after 30 years. If you want to plan for pregnancy then take folic acid 5mg tablets and B-complex tablets. By doing this, spine and nerve problems are less in the unborn child.
If yours is male.. you should meet genetic counselors once. Don’t fear disability just because you’re old. After the pregnancy is confirmed, consult a doctor at a hospital that deals with high-risk pregnancies. A scan with a fetal medicine specialist at 3rd and 5th months will most likely detect congenital abnormalities. For pregnant women who are over 30 years of age, a scan and blood test are done for Down syndrome screening at 11-12 weeks of pregnancy. It can detect three types of chromosomal problems.
If they test positive, advanced tests are available at hospitals that specialize in high-risk pregnancies. Have you already tried anything for pregnancy? If it doesn’t work, wife and husband are advised to undergo some tests. If there are any problems found in those tests, they are corrected. Medicines are given to get pregnant. Get a routine checkup with a gynecologist. It is better for those who are planning pregnancy to go for preconceptionally counseling before pregnancy. Proper medications and prevention of complications will be discussed.
