My domestic help gave me a blowjob ten days ago. She confessed to me later that she is HIV positive. I immediately got my HIV test done and it has come negative. Does this mean that oral sex does not transmit HIV infection? I am puzzled and scared. Please guide.

Oral sex with a person who is HIV positive is undoubtedly a very high-risk behaviour. There is a very, very high probability of HIV transmission through this. Your HIV negative test result, conducted just ten days after this episode, could very well be deceptive. If a person is infected with HIV, then the blood test (Elisa test for HIV Antibodies) comes positive only after about three months have lapsed. The initial period of three months, when the test comes negative is known as the ‘window period’. This is a dangerous period, as it gives the false impression that a person is HIV negative. The HIV infected person is fully capable of transmitting the infection to others through oral sex or any form of unprotected sex. I strongly recommend you to repeat your HIV test after three months.
